Cheap Thrills
I am touched by the shallowest of things and because of that when it comes to cheap thrills, I have A LOT to say, being a cheapskate that I am. (Read: cheapangga). Ha Ha Ha!
Cards and letters. Like most girls, I keep all the cards and letters given to me from way back when. They are neatly kept inside boxes and I read them constantly. I really miss those days when my friends and I exchange notes even if we do see each other almost everyday. Those were the days when emails and internet were still strange. There’s always a different kind of excitement in opening and reading a letter or a card from a lover or a friend, almost the same feeling in opening a gift. I remember in high school and college, I used to keep even the gift wrappers inside my cabinet. It stopped when I began buying and collecting stuffs for myself and had no room for those “trash”, as my mom would call it.
Stamps. I’m talking about rubber stamps/inkjet stamps. I don’t know why but I have a thing for rubber stamps. I’m fascinated watching bank tellers and people in the embassies stamp away! I know it’s weird. Hehe. To satiate my fascination, I bought several date stamps I am now using at work and one with my name on it. Dyna has been a witness to this and makes fun of me about it. Much to my delight, she volunteered to have a stamp done for me with my choice of print. I dare not say what the outcome was (hahaha)!
Notebooks, notepads and the like. I used to collect stationeries in grade school. Remember those scented ones and those of Hello Kitty, Little Twin Stars, Kero Keroppi, etc.? Those were the days… Today, I love notebooks in beautiful designs and notepads, too. I like my Havaianas notepad most especially. Thanks to Leah, I now have an F4 notepad. Dao Mingzu!!!
Magazines. Not too many years ago, each time I am not carrying a shopping bag during my trip to the mall, I make sure I buy a magazine, at least. It started with Cosmopolitan, then there was Preview, Mega, Metro, Philippine Tatler, Real Living, Our Home and InStyle. Then I subscribed to Preview and InStyle. Thanks to Metrobank Femme card, I had a free subscription to Mega magazine for a while. Sometimes I would just leaf through the pages and that was it, but I couldn’t part with every single copy I had. It just kept piling up. I made a plan to donate them to small beauty parlors and NGO’s but I decided to cut out my favorite articles first. I never had the chance to do it. I better start soon before I start my subscription to O magazine!
Surfing away. Net surfing, that is. My cheapest thrill is ogling and salivating with drool-worthy items and collections from different websites… It is something I can do every single day, busy or not! Consequently, I shop online. However, I know where to draw the line when it comes to online shopping...that is a major torture though!
Food. People close to me know that food is one of my weaknesses! I can never say no to food. I just love to eat!
Malling. I'm a certified mallrat...but I am NOT a blackbelt shopper!!!
Flip Flops. I have a love affair with flip flops for quite some time now, more particularly with Havaianas. I don’t know if it is considered “cheap” as I even had to ask my friends abroad to buy the styles not available locally. I do order online, too. I love my Wonder Woman Havaianas most. For flip flops, it is definitely not cheap but I don’t care!
